Communion DC
Communion DC
Communion was born in the Summer of 2006 at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club. Founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den), and acclaimed producer Ian Grimble, it quickly grew into a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, providing a first independent platform for the freshest young artists on London’s circuit and beyond.

The monthly night has seen the likes of Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, JJ Pistolet and Peggy Sue all grace the stage from the very start of their fledgling careers. It has also helped spawn the first steps for a diverse range of artists from The Holloways to King Charles and Example to Ben Howard to all in keeping with the eclectic ethos that Communion has come to stand for.

Since its humble beginnings from a West London basement bar, ‘Communion Presents’ shows have taken place across the UK in Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Leeds, York, Oxford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast, and internationally in Melbourne, Nashville, San Fransisco and New York City. Communion Presents works closely with other champions of new live music, including the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, The Camden Crawl, HMV’s Next Big Thing series, The NME awards, Belfast’s Open House Festival, and many more clubs and companies who all have a hand in promoting exciting new music to as big and broad an audience as possible.

Communion Records was founded in September 2009, priding itself on creating a close working family in which to allow artists to develop at their own pace. Production on many releases is handled by Ben, Kevin and Ian themselves, involving other artists from the roster in the recording process for that community vibe. Communion has released, or is currently primed to release records by Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, Daughter, Deap Vally, Willy Mason, Half Moon Run, Gotye, Marcus Foster, Matthew and the Atlas, Matt Corby, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Pete Roe, Foy Vance, and Joe Banfi.

In addition Communion Records releases a compilation each year – Compilation 1 (Communion) featured rare recordings by Mumford and Sons, Johnny Flynn, Alessi’s Ark, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, JJ Pistolet (now of The Vaccines), and more. Compilation 2 (The Flowerpot Sessions) was a hugely ambitious, week long collaborative live project featuring original live recordings from the likes of Angus and Julia Stone, Damien Rice, The Staves, Lissie and Kill it Kid. And Compilation 3 (New Faces) was a snapshot of Communion’s musical universe as 2011 turned into 2012, featuring Michel Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, Keaton Henson, Matt Corby, Joe Banfi and loads more.

Neulore
Neulore
NEULORE was formed in Nashville, TN in the Autumn of 2009 to tell stories of hope. After releasing a well-crafted EP, "Apples & Eve", they have begun to take their heartfelt songs to the masses. With a live show that not only entertains, but affects, leaving the audience with a sense that anything is possible, Neulore is captivating the hearts of all who draw near. Describing their sound as "truth in modern tones" and boldly stating that "the new folk music has arrived" they are firmly rooted in the tradition of community, the pursuit of wisdom, and the telling of timeless stories from a fresh perspective.
Bootstraps
Bootstraps
Harvest Records announces the re-release of Bootstraps’ self-titled debut album on February 18th. The band will start a three night residency at Los Angeles’ legendary downtown venue Hotel Café on January 29th (performance schedule below). Recently signed to Harvest, Bootstraps have remixed and remastered their eponymous album for re-release, showcasing a new chapter for the buzz band. Music from the album has been featured on televisions shows such as ABC’s “No Ordinary Family,” “Private Practice” and “Betrayal, NBC’s “Parenthood”, and more. Bootstraps was named Amazon MP3 “Rising Star” of 2013 and included on Rdio’s Best of 2012 list, while Paste Magazine compared them to Ray LaMontagne, with hints of Bon Iver and Band of Horses.

The self-titled album was recorded by Skip Saylor (Tom Petty, Wilco, Suicidal Tendencies) in Northridge, California after actor/director Sam Jaeger asked Beckett to write songs for his award-winning film Take Me Home. The band spent one day in the studio recording songs live, in an attempt to capture raw moments. The result led them to return for four more sessions, tracking three songs a day to complete the record with the help of Richard Dodd (Kings of Leon, The Raconteurs).

Formed in Los Angeles by Jordan Beckett (vocals, guitar, piano), Bootstraps also includes Nathan Warkentin (drums and vocals) and David Quon (guitars, piano, and vocals). The band’s name is a play on the expression, “pull yourself up by the bootstraps.”
Busy Living
Busy Living
Los Angeles rock/pop outfit Busy Living was formed in early 2012 after frontman Mike Moonves left his former band, Chief (Domino). Writing songs of love and heartbreak, Busy Living heavy lyrics are complemented by their upbeat melodies. Rounded out by Jared Sohnen's pounding drums, Tim Hutton's strong bass, Matt Leddy's hooky and atmospheric keys and Drew Phillips' melodic guitar playing, Busy Living brings an energy packed live show that is truly an experience. Busy Living released the "It's a War Out There!" EP in the summer of 2012 and plan to release their second EP in late 2014.
Cub Sport
Cub Sport
Brisbane’s Cub Sport had a rollercoaster ride in 2012, starting the year with their catchy ditty “Evie” taking over
the airwaves solidifying their reputation in Australia and bookending the year with “Told You So” eclipsing that
success and becoming a breakout hit on US college radio. In between, the band toured nationally with the likes of
Ball Park Music and Loon Lake and won the Queensland Music Awards Song of the Year for their
second single “Do You Hear”.

2013 sees the band with their sights set firmly overseas. January saw them peak at #16 on US college radio bible
CMJ’s charts with well over 100 stations around the US spinning their breakout track “Told You So”, while the
band were also selected to perform at seminal festivals The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City and Music Matters Singarpore, with their new UK team working on their Spring tour, which will wind its way through the UK and finishing up with shows on the way home through Singapore and Vietnam before the band heads across to the states for the first time.
The Sea life
The Sea life
The Sea Life has the natural ability to deliver infectious hits that comprise an exotic blend of shoegaze, indie-pop and general lo-fi fuzz. After releasing a stunning full-length album in 2012, In Basements, the quartet unveiled a delectable EP called Transitions on October 31, 2013. The release showcased The Sea Life's bona fide talent to craft emotive, catchy and candid songs, and also marked the band's best work to-date. Onstage, the indie rockers bring a firestorm of energy and charisma that has quickly won over the District.
