Communion D.C.
Communion D.C.
Communion was born in the Summer of 2006 at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club. Founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den), and acclaimed producer Ian Grimble, it quickly grew into a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, providing a first independent platform for the freshest young artists on London’s circuit and beyond.

The monthly night has seen the likes of Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, JJ Pistolet and Peggy Sue all grace the stage from the very start of their fledgling careers. It has also helped spawn the first steps for a diverse range of artists from The Holloways to King Charles and Example to Ben Howard to all in keeping with the eclectic ethos that Communion has come to stand for.

Since its humble beginnings from a West London basement bar, ‘Communion Presents’ shows have taken place across the UK in Brighton, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Leeds, York, Oxford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast, and internationally in Melbourne, Nashville, San Fransisco and New York City. Communion Presents works closely with other champions of new live music, including the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, The Camden Crawl, HMV’s Next Big Thing series, The NME awards, Belfast’s Open House Festival, and many more clubs and companies who all have a hand in promoting exciting new music to as big and broad an audience as possible.

Communion Records was founded in September 2009, priding itself on creating a close working family in which to allow artists to develop at their own pace. Production on many releases is handled by Ben, Kevin and Ian themselves, involving other artists from the roster in the recording process for that community vibe. Communion has released, or is currently primed to release records by Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, Daughter, Deap Vally, Willy Mason, Half Moon Run, Gotye, Marcus Foster, Matthew and the Atlas, Matt Corby, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Pete Roe, Foy Vance, and Joe Banfi.

In addition Communion Records releases a compilation each year – Compilation 1 (Communion) featured rare recordings by Mumford and Sons, Johnny Flynn, Alessi’s Ark, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, JJ Pistolet (now of The Vaccines), and more. Compilation 2 (The Flowerpot Sessions) was a hugely ambitious, week long collaborative live project featuring original live recordings from the likes of Angus and Julia Stone, Damien Rice, The Staves, Lissie and Kill it Kid. And Compilation 3 (New Faces) was a snapshot of Communion’s musical universe as 2011 turned into 2012, featuring Michel Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, Keaton Henson, Matt Corby, Joe Banfi and loads more.

Brave Baby
Brave Baby
Brave Baby was formed in 2012 when long time friends and band mates Keon Masters (vocals/guitar), Wolfgang Zimmerman (vocals/drums), and Christian Chidester (guitar/vocals) began playing with Jordan Hicks (bass) and Steven Walker (keys/percussion). The band spent most of 2012 writing and self-producing what would become the band's debut album Forty Bells, released in early 2013 on Charleston indie label Hearts and Plugs. Production was lead by producer and drummer Wolfgang Zimmerman in the bands' storage unit turned intimate practice/studio space in the Elliotborough neighborhood of Charleston, SC
Johnnyswim
Johnnyswim
JOHNNYSWIM is a Los Angeles based duo composed of Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez. The two began writing and singing together in the spring of 2006 and found that their similar influences of folk, soul, and rock blended together lusciously. Nashville newspaper "the Tennesean" describes JOHNNYSWIM as ,"A mix of Lauryn Hill and John Mayer" ... We LOVE the Tennessean :)
The Raised By Wolves
The Raised By Wolves
The Raised By Wolves is comprised of Ben Eskin and Dusty Durston, who hail from Bethesda, Maryland. After beginning to write songs in 2004, the two have used the better part of a decade to hone their musical craft. After deciding to attend different schools in 2008, the two began a musical project that they would write both remotely and when they reunited on academic breaks.

They have spent the last year polishing their repertoire and recording their sonic experiments. Sadie Hawkins is the band's debut album and is representative of The Raised By Wolves' dedication to writing heartfelt pop songs and presenting them in unorthodox ways.
The Walking Sticks
The Walking Sticks
There's a video of a 5 yr. old girl bouncing around, belting out vocals to a Sinatra record. There's another video of 7 yr. old twin brothers banging out an original song on piano. Unbeknownst to the other, these people would one day come together in an extraordinary way.

The Ernst brothers grew up in a house where their mom, a 1970s singer songwriter conveyed a love of music. Typically there was happy noise being made on piano and guitars, and lots of singing. The twins landed a publishing deal in 2008 with Cherry Lane Music along with auditions for record labels. However, their intuition turned them in a different direction.

In 2009 Max and Spencer enrolled at University of Maryland stepping away from discussions with the labels. A chance meeting with singer songwriter Chelsea Lee turned into a symbiotic friendship and the three began writing songs together. Chelsea was signed with Atlantic Records at that time, but she too was turning in a different direction. In 2012 the Walking Sticks band was formed.

Through these experiences the band emerged unified, independent and energized. They're now writing and recording songs for an upcoming EP which marks a new path - three strong vocals weaving through a pulse synth soundscape. Working on the new EP with producer Brian Goddard is Steuart Smith, lead guitarist for the Eagles.

The Walking Sticks continue to build support in and around the mid-Atlantic region. Band member's past performances include the 9:30 Club and Kennedy Center in DC, the Tin Roof in Philadelphia, the Rockwood Music Hall and Mercury Lounge in NYC, the Red Room in Boston.
