The Midatlantic
The Midatlantic
The Midatlantic began to take shape on the Cape Fear coast of NC in 2013. After a hiatus from his solo singer songwriting, frontman Jason Andre began working with friends on collaboration projects and took up the mandolin. A new season of songwriting began and the collaborations came together. Steve Schroeder, long time friend and fellow surfer/surf instructor/world travel adventurer, provided guitar and traded harmonies as they spent evenings on tropical back porches and bonfires. From another short lived project came another old friend, Jesse Bond, who provided bass, keys, cello and cellotar for a time. Fellow surfer/surf instructor and friend Ben Sciance began providing the rhythms on drums and occasionally picks up the banjo. After their first performance in early 2013 at the tiny backyard concert, Jesse gave up the bass to Allan Upham, who made his first appearance at the tiny front yard concert in the fall of 2013. The first 5 song self titled EP was released in February of 2014. Then in the summer of 2014, Jason discovered a young violinist named Will Maxwell at Wilmington’s famed Satellite Bluegrass night one Sunday and invited him to come try out as the sixth and final element. Early in 2015 Jesse & his wife welcomed a baby girl into the world and took a leave of absence to take on fatherhood full time.

Work on their first full length album began in January of 2015 at Hourglass Studios, and finished recording in Jason’s home in September. Jesse contributed his keys parts to the album in between diaper changes and a young and talented cellist named Preston Luce filled in on cello for the recordings. The talented Evan Bradford mixed it and the renowned Jeff Lipton mastered the album.

2015 was an ambitious first year for The Midatlantic as a full band. A few highlights included opening for nationally recognized bands such as The Steep Canyon Rangers, playing for Blue Moon Brewing’s 20th Anniversary party, and receiving runner-up at Floydfest’s On-The-Rise competition earning multiple standing ovations, hundreds of new fans, and an invitation to go back next year. Their local following in the Wilmington and Raleigh, NC areas over their short time together has also been overwhelmingly supportive. Major events such as The 2014 Lighthouse Beer Fest, Wilmington Brewing Company’s Grand Opening, Encore Magazine’s Best Of Party, Quintiles Marathon, and countless other festivals and private events have all welcomed The Midatlantic with open arms and cheering crowds. The Midatlantic released their first full length album “Sound Over Water” on November 20th, 2015.

The adventure continued into 2016 where the band played more festivals including Bristol Rhythm & Roots, Brewgaloo, Shakori Hills, and Floydfest to name a few. They worked their way into some new cities and venues and have continued their ambitious push to spread their sounds across every mountain and every ocean.
